It's nice if there is more competition in the street class. Can you at least tell us if it's a Japanese car or a Ford? So we know what we are dealing with. Hopefully by next event more cars will run in the 9s and maybe even some very low 9s.

Did the time come now?

When you will give us some hints about what is to be expected in the near future?

Blacksubaru the time has not come yet nor it will come this year. However if you are the one with the black subaru that runs in the 9's i have great respect for you and i do not want to build my car to challege you but to challenge another racer which he and his fellow compatriots think that their cars are the best their are. Their arrogance and stupidity is what started my anger to build my car in the future.

I know sometimes some people maybe talk to much and think that they own Hal far but thats life. The important thing is that we race and by time we compete against the UK big guns and win like Mr Whippy and Elbros did before us.
Hope that you soon manage to finish your car and win against the person you mentioned but its better that you finish your car in order to have more competitive cars in the SM class as right now just 4 or 5 cars enlist in the SM5 and when you take out those that break etc you end up with just 1 car after the first qualifying rounds.
I wish that you give us more information on which car you're racing, at least we know the car model and if its Japanese etc but its up to you.

i hope that some people owing fast street cars colaborate more with mdra
as mdra would really like to do a succecfull street drag racing event but as we just saw the mdra tried to organise an event with just 16 entries for the street event
its not even worth the papers that were printed to do such event
what a disgrace!!

at thursday evenings you see all those street cars and then just 16 showed up
and this event was specially made to cater for these cars with no grip juice on the track and no slick tyres to be used so that less damage to the cars can be made but still no colaboration

MORE ACTION LESS TALK PLEASE !!

Hi Jason,

My car is in peaces right now so unfortunately I can`t compete with it yet, I hope that by the end of this year it will be finished.

I think that the mdra should make a page on this website dedicated to the street class cars, like the pages you have with regulations for each individual class. This page will be for those who wish to know more about the street class event.

We can start here if you want or start a new post with some more info about the street car event.

All the regulations can be found here:

:.Each vehicle will be doing 2 qualification runs only.

:.All eliminations and finals will be raced on a best out of three basis.

:.No slicks can be used in these events.

:.The competition is on a bracket race basis Any street legal car with any engine size can compete in these events.

:. All cars must have license and VRT No towed cars will be accepted.

I like to add a questions just so those who is not that familiar with national events they will be informed.

When it says the competition is on a bracket race basis , does it mean that there is going to be these brackets?

14.000 to 14.499
13.500 to 13.999
13.000 to 13.499
12.500 to 12.999
12.000 to 12.499
11.500 to 11.999
11.000 to 11.499
10.500 to 10.999
10.000 to 10.499
9.500 to 9.999

Alot of people think that they are going to enter in 1 class and they end up racing in the finals with the big cars. People get scared from events like this so you have to talk them into it.

Like you said , the attendance is very big every Thursday night and I AM SURE that if you just open up halfar at a normal Thursday night without saying anything and all the cars that approach the gate you tell them that today there will be trophies given to these time brackets at an extra cost, I am sure that more than 16 cars will be in.

You have to promote it like it is going to be a special run what you bring day where you are going to be lined with a car with your similar time and who makes the best time wins.

I am not saying that the event is not promoted well , but my opinion is that it should be promoted in a different way , a way for those who are not familiar how national events are held, which many who attend every thursday never competed.

Hope I made sense with what I said :)

Best Regards
Marlon.

hi marlon

thanks for your interest in drag racing and mdra

you are rite there will be bracket racing as you explaned

but you cannot just do a one day (like a run what you bring) as you have to know what you will need for the amount of cars entered

example if we had to do this street event we need to do it on a two day basis
first day will be for qualifing and next day for elimination and finals

i say we promoted this event as from the very first few months of this year

these event were also on the mdra calendar for everyone to see

we made a bigger promotion lately and still not enough people replied

so now we have another street car event on the calendar (7 th dec) which we will try once more to organise ,if we see that still there is no good response then in my opinion these should not be included in the 2009 calendar

and mdra should try different type of events to bring more people to hal far

but lets see the december event and we go from there

hi jason,

i really wished that the street event is held but unfortunately it wont happen cause of few people being interested.

I think that for more people to take part in street event a reward system must take place and the event more organised in a car show way. When the annual car show is held in Tradefair you can see the interest and how many people go to the show. Why dont you organise something in that way and part of the show are the races. I know there are lot of good cars in Malta but many of them are afraid of staging with lights and maybe of breaking their car. A possible way of making the event more interesting is by giving away something more tangible to the winners and not just a trophy. Example you can get sponsorships from shops like Forestals or mobile shops and the winner in each bracket can get a Playstation or a mobile phone if he wins. I know its hard to get sponsors in Malta as I faced the problem myself to get sponsors for my car but if you speak to the right people you'll get some help for sure. If you see the UK for example they orgasnise a lot of these events as I just went to Ten of the Best and it was a huge event. Maybe you can take an idea from how they organise it, all they do is they invite the best 10 cars from every UK forum and have teams. I know Malta is small so its more difficult but you can try to organise it together with the big tuners in Malta and every garage tries to have its cars listed. If you add up Zoqdi, Roger, Manti, Sieheb etc I'm sure you'll get more than 20 cars and than with good promotion you'll try to get the other cars (amatuer ones). Why dont you try to involve the Hillclimb associatio as well maybe some of the street cars that run in Hillclimb can be invited to take part in event. Also why dont you try to organise a small party in the 2 day setup you know how it is in Malta where there is DJ Ruby or Armani you'll end up with few hundreds of people. You can see on Thursday that lot of people know of Halfar and thats the difficult part to try to get them on a weekend with their cars and friends.

I know its hard for the comittee and you all try your best but you must persevere and hopefully the event in December will be a success.

Thanks for everything you do at Hal Far. Dont give up.
